Guwahati: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Boro has distributed Rs 2 lakh to each of 181 former members of the National Liberation Front of Boroland (NLFB) at a function held at Madhabdeb International Auditorium here on Friday.
Commenting on the programme, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “BTR is completely peaceful now, thanks to the tremendous trust people have in our Hon’ble PM’s policies. A heartfelt welcome to those who’ve chosen the path of peace over violence. The holistic growth of the Bodo community remains our utmost commitment.”
All these cadres laid down their weapons before the authorities in July 2021.
The financial assistance was distributed under the special initiative of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the rehabilitation of former militant cadres.
In his address, Bodo said: The visionary leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah has brought an end to the dark decades of violence in BTR. Today, a sustained peace reigns across our region and BTR is steadfastly advancing towards peace and progress.”
“I also laud the NLFB’s decision of shunning violence & embracing the path of peace,” Boro said.
MLA Lawrence Islary, EM Ranjit Basumatary, Assam Police DGP GP Singh, home secretary Biswajit Pegu, additional DGP (SB) Hiren Chandra Nath, senior IAS officer Dr Ravi Kota were also present at the function.
