Delhi, September 29, 2023: A 13-member delegation from the Eastern Naga People’s Organization (ENPO) arrived in the national capital today to hold crucial talks with the Union Home Secretary, marking a significant step towards resolving long-standing issues in the region.
The ENPO, representing various Eastern Naga tribes, has been advocating for the recognition of their unique identity and the resolution of historical grievances. The delegation’s visit to Delhi comes after a series of dialogues and negotiations at both regional and national levels.
The delegation is led by Mr. Kuknalim Longri, the President of ENPO, and includes prominent leaders, representatives, and advisors from the Eastern Naga community. The primary objective of their visit is to engage in constructive discussions with the Union Home Secretary, Mr. Rajesh Sharma, and present their demands and concerns for a peaceful resolution.
ENPO spokesperson, Ms. Ningsangnao Pamei, expressed optimism about the talks, stating, “We have come to Delhi with an open heart and a strong desire for peace and harmony in our region. Our people have endured decades of turmoil, and we believe it’s time to find a just and equitable solution that respects our unique cultural identity.”
The Eastern Naga region, comprising the Tuensang, Mon, Longleng, Kiphire, and Noklak districts in Nagaland, has faced numerous challenges, including issues related to governance, political representation, economic development, and cultural preservation.
The ENPO has previously engaged in dialogues with the Government of India to address these concerns, and their visit to Delhi is expected to provide an opportunity for further deliberation and progress.
Union Home Secretary Mr. Rajesh Sharma expressed the government’s commitment to addressing the grievances of the Eastern Naga people. “The Central Government is dedicated to finding a comprehensive and lasting solution to the issues faced by the ENPO and the people of the Eastern Naga region. We welcome their delegation and are hopeful that our discussions will lead to meaningful outcomes,” he stated.
The talks are scheduled to take place over the next several days, with various rounds of discussions on the agenda. Both sides are expected to engage in a candid and constructive dialogue aimed at forging a path towards peace and prosperity for the Eastern Naga people.
As the ENPO delegation begins its discussions in Delhi, there is a sense of cautious optimism that these talks could be a significant step towards addressing the concerns and aspirations of the Eastern Naga community, ultimately paving the way for a more stable and harmonious future in the region.
