GUWAHATI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption on Tuesday arrested an assistant sub-inspector of police (UB) Hitush Nath, of Abdullapur Police Patrol Post under Lala police station in Hailakandi district for accepting a bribe of Rs 10 thousand from an individual for amicably settling a dispute between two parties.
Initially, he demanded Rs 30 thousand but later reduced to Rs 20 thousand.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this DVAC to take necessary legal action.
“A trap was laid today by a team from the DVAC in Abdullapur Police Patrol Post in Hailakandi district. ASI Hitush Nath was caught red-handed at 2:45 pm immediately after he accepted Rs 10 thousand as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession and was seized accordingly,” police said.
“Finding sufficient evidence against the police ASI, he has been arrested by the team of the DVAC,” they said.
In this connection, a case was registered in ACB Police Station vide ACB PS case No 75/2023 under section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), they added.
