GUWAHATI, February 27, 2024:In a recent development in Assam’s political landscape, Pijush Hazarika, a minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has made a bold claim that the majority of Congress leaders in the state are in touch with the BJP. However, no concrete details were provided by Hazarika to substantiate his assertion.
Responding to a post by Assam Congress in-charge Jitendra Singh Alwar, Hazarika took to Twitter to state, “Dear Jitendra Singh Ji, except Rakibul Hussain, Rekibuddin Ahmed, Zakir Hussain Sikdar, and Nurul Huda, all other @INCAssam leaders / MLA’s are in touch with us.” Hazarika further hinted that it’s only a matter of time before the remaining Congress leaders also join other political parties.
This development comes on the heels of Jitendra Singh’s accusations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming that the BJP is attempting to poach Leader of Opposition and CLP leader Debabrata Saikia. Singh alleged that Sarma is so desperate to bring Saikia into the BJP that he sought to meet Saikia’s mother.
Singh expressed his concerns, stating, “CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s desperation to poach Congress leaders to the extent that he urges to meet our CLP leader Sh. Debabrata Saikia’s mother to get him to join the BJP is most intriguing.” Singh criticized the BJP, asserting that such actions reflect the party’s true character, which thrives on injustice.
Furthermore, Singh targeted the Assam CM for allegedly securing votes for the BJP by creating beneficiaries among voters. He accused Sarma of hastily organizing the Lakhpati Baideo scheme to coincide with the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, a historical event organized by the Congress party. Singh claimed that the scheme’s benefits were merely a propaganda tool, as the women themselves approached Rahul Gandhi to express their support for the yatra.
The political tussle between the BJP and Congress in Assam seems to be intensifying, with both parties making allegations against each other. As the situation unfolds, political observers and citizens await further developments to see how these claims and counterclaims impact the political landscape in the state.
