A 37-YEAR-OLD businessman died by suicide after allegedly killing his wife and three minor children at his house in Mariyahu area of Jaunpur district on Wednesday, police said. No suicide note has been recovered yet. Police suspect that the incident may be the fallout of a family dispute.
The police identified the deceased as Nagesh Vishwakarma, his wife Radhika Vishwakarma (35) and their three children — two daughters and a son — said police. Nagesh ran a tent business. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and the reports are awaited, police said.
Police said Nagesh apparently hit his wife on the head using an iron rod, leading to her death, and then strangulated the children to death before hanging himself.
Circle Office, Mariyahu, Chob Singh said prima facie it does not seem that the family had been facing a financial crisis. “A probe is on,” said Singh.
According to the police, on Wednesday morning, some neighbours went to the house but got no response despite several knocks on the door. They then informed Nagesh’s cousin Sonu Vishwakarma, who lives nearby.
Police said Sonu broke open the door and found the bodies, after which the police were informed.
