The Fatehpur district administration has partially demolished the house of a 21-year-old man arrested for the rape and murder of a 19-year-old woman from a different community last month. Officials said the “illegal” portion of the house was pulled down after the family failed to reply to the notice sent to them earlier.

“The map of the house was not passed from the concerned authority. Notices were issued to the family, but they failed to file a reply. On June 27, a portion of the house was demolished. We had to stop the demolition, fearing that the neighbour’s house could get damaged. On Tuesday, we resumed the demolition drive and the remaining illegal portion of the house was razed in the presence of engineers and officials,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Fatehpur) Awadesh Nigam said.
