Guwahati: 1st January 2024:- In a bid to enhance the overall urban experience and streamline administrative processes, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has directed officials of the Guwahati Smart City and the Transport Department to implement a series of transformative measures.
During a high-level meeting, Chief Minister Sharma outlined key initiatives aimed at improving city surveillance, simplifying bureaucratic processes, and beautifying Guwahati’s riverfront.
- Comprehensive CCTV Installation: Chief Minister Sharma emphasized the urgent need to bolster city surveillance by installing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across strategic locations in Guwahati. The move aims to enhance public safety, monitor traffic flow, and deter criminal activities. The Guwahati Smart City officials have been tasked with developing a comprehensive plan for the swift installation of CCTV systems.
- Digital Driving License and Fitness Certificate Issuance: In a significant step towards leveraging technology for citizen convenience, Sharma urged officials to devise a system allowing residents to obtain Driving Licenses and Fitness Certificates without the need to physically visit government offices. The proposed digital process aims to simplify bureaucratic hurdles, reduce paperwork, and enhance the efficiency of the Transport Department’s services.
- Aesthetic Enhancement of Guwahati Riverfront: Recognizing the importance of the Brahmaputra River to Guwahati’s cultural and aesthetic identity, the Chief Minister has directed the Guwahati Smart City authorities to develop plans for enhancing the riverfront’s aesthetic appeal. The project will include landscaping, beautification, and the creation of recreational spaces to transform the riverfront into a vibrant and inviting public space.
Speaking on these initiatives, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma stated, “Our vision for Guwahati is to create a smart city that not only embraces technology for efficient governance but also offers an enhanced quality of life for its residents. The proposed measures aim to simplify processes, promote safety, and enrich the visual identity of our beloved city.”
