GUWAHATI: Arunachal Pradesh government on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) to explore the feasibility of harnessing geothermal potentials that the state’s numerous hot springs offer.  NGI is an independent research centre in the field of geotechnical engineering and engineering geosciences. GUWAHATI: Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) have developed a Silica nanoparticle-coated cotton fabric that can separate oil from an oil-water mixture.  This research aims to convert large-scale agricultural waste into a sustainable value-added product to mitigate marine oil pollution.  The nanoparticles have been developed by utilising rice husk, an agricultural waste, as the primary source material. The findings of this study can aid in the development of economical, sustainable platforms for separating oil/water mixtures or harmful components from aqueous/non-aqueous mixtures.
