IMPHAL,17.02.2024:In a distressing incident, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured in a gun attack in Manipur’s Kakching district on Saturday. The injured head constable, identified as Som Dutt, 45, hails from Himachal Pradesh and sustained injuries to his left shoulder when he was hit by a bullet at Sugnu village.
The attack occurred amid a series of consistent assaults by armed men over the last three days in Sugnu. According to officials, on Friday night, assailants fired from hill slopes using medium machine guns, escalating tensions in the region.
The situation escalated further on Wednesday when armed men targeted Sugnu village, leading to a gunfight with village volunteers stationed in the area. The violence marks a continuation of unrest in Sugnu, which experienced severe clashes last May. During that period, numerous houses were set ablaze, and more than five lives were lost, forcing hundreds of villagers to seek refuge in relief camps.
The injured jawan, Som Dutt, was promptly admitted to a private hospital for medical attention. Authorities are actively investigating the recent attacks to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
The escalating tension in Sugnu raises concerns about the security situation in the region, prompting the need for intensified efforts to ensure the safety of both security personnel and civilians. The government and security forces are urged to take swift and decisive actions to restore peace and stability in Sugnu and prevent further harm to the local population.
