Kokrajhar 01.01.2024:In a bid to tackle the rising instances of unruly behavior, safety hazards, and environmental pollution caused by picnickers in various tourist spots, the District Magistrate of Kokrajhar, Pradeep Kr. Dwivedi, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C). The order, effective immediately, aims to address concerns related to public nuisance, safety hazards, and environmental degradation during the ongoing picnic season.
The order comes in response to reported incidents of drunken revelers and picnickers causing disturbances in public spaces, disrupting the peace and tranquility of popular picnic and tourist spots across Kokrajhar district. Additionally, cases of reckless and drunken driving after picnics, especially after dusk, have posed a significant threat to public safety.
Major environmental concerns identified include the rampant use of non-biodegradable plastic and improper disposal of waste. Miscreants have been found throwing solid waste into rivers, contaminating natural water bodies, and endangering aquatic flora and fauna.
Prohibitions Imposed:
The District Magistrate, exercising his powers, has imposed the following prohibitions throughout Kokrajhar district:
- Gathering Restrictions: Gathering of people for picnic or feast purposes in all picnic places is prohibited after 4:30 PM.
- Plastic Use and Disposal: Use or dumping of non-biodegradable plastic and other plastic products in and around picnic spots is strictly forbidden.
- Littering and Open Defecation: Littering and open defecation in and around the picnic spots are prohibited.
The order emphasizes the necessity of these measures for maintaining public law and order and preserving the natural habitat in and around the picnic spots and river ghats.
Issued ex-parte due to the exigency of the matter, the order will remain in force until further notice. Individuals aggrieved by this order can apply for rescinding, alteration, modification, or exemption at any stage.
Penalties for Violation:
Any violation of this order will lead to penal action under Section 188 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
District Magistrate Pradeep Kr. Dwivedi urges the public to comply with the prohibitions in the interest of public safety, environmental conservation, and the overall well-being of the community.
