GUWAHATI: Police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district seized heroin worth Rs 3 crore from an i20 car in front of SBI Khatkhati bordering Nagaland on Thursday morning.
Two persons were arrested in this connection. They are: Nur Uddin (43), son of Sulman Ali of Lahkarghat village under Dhing police station in Nagaon district and Azhar Uddin (24), son of Alal Uddin of Bhokotgaon under Nagaon police station in Nagaon district.
“Acting on secret information a Naka was set up by a team of police and CRPF in front of SBI Khatkhati and intercepted one i20 car bearing registration no AS02J 2001. On being thorough search of the vehicle, 45 boxes of soap cases of heroin weighing 575 grams were recovered from the secret chamber made in the dashboard of the vehicle,” a senior police official said.
The consignment was brought from Dimapur and was supposed to be delivered somewhere in Nagaon.
On September 25, a consignment of 583.08 grams of heroin was recovered from a person who was detained near Naka point of Karagaon police picket under Khatkhati police station.
The accused was coming on foot with a plastic bag with 47 soap boxes of heroin weighing 583.08 grams.
He was identified as Samsul Haque (43), son of Sokat Ali of Guashpur, Ward no 9 of Karimganj district.
The movement of drug trafficking through Khatkhati and Laharijan, which have become transit points for drug trafficking from Manipur, has gone down drastically after the clashes erupted between Kukis and Meiteis in Manipur on May 3.
