Champhai, February 13, 2024:In a significant blow to illegal activities, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Excise & Narcotics Department, Champhai, successfully conducted an operation leading to the recovery of 20.8 grams of Heroin No. 4. The operation, carried out in the general area of Zote, Champhai on February 12, 2024, resulted in the apprehension of one Myanmar national.
The joint effort was based on specific intelligence, showcasing the effectiveness of collaboration between security forces and law enforcement agencies. The seized contraband, valued at Rupees 14.56 Lakh, has been handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department, Champhai, for further legal proceedings, along with the arrested individual.
Simultaneously, in a separate operation led by the personnel of Seling Forest Range and Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary, three individuals were arrested for violating the Wildlife Protection Act. Acting on precise information, forest authorities intercepted the poachers en route to Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary. The culprits were armed with rifles, demonstrating their intent for illegal hunting.
The successful joint patrols conducted by teams from Seling Forest Range and Tawi Wildlife Sanctuary resulted in the apprehension of the suspects in Tlungvel village. Upon inspection, the poachers were found in possession of birds and squirrels they had unlawfully killed. Additionally, two air rifles, ammunition, and other hunting equipment were seized from the Phulmawi area of the village.
The arrested individuals, identified as Lalchhuanawma (33), H.S. Tlangkhuma (68), and Lalthazuala (41), residents of Tlungvel Village in Aizawl District, were presented before the magistrate and remanded to Central Jail overnight.
These successful operations underscore the commitment of security forces and forest authorities in curbing illegal activities, be it smuggling or poaching, and send a strong message that the region is vigilant and committed to preserving its natural resources while ensuring public safety.
