GUWAHATI,10.02.2024:In a recent turn of events, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi raised concerns in the Lok Sabha about the Assam government’s expenditure on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s air travel. Seeking a discussion on the matter, Gogoi questioned the financial allocations towards the Chief Minister’s helicopter usage.
Responding to the criticism, BJP leader Pijush Hazarika took to social media, recalling the extravagant helicopter joy rides of late Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Hazarika alleged that Tarun Gogoi used to take 50 km helicopter rides multiple times from Guwahati to places like Jagiroad and Nalbari, solely to visit his astrologer. He pointed out that the Congress party never settled the bills for these journeys.
Hazarika’s statement sheds light on a contrasting perspective regarding the use of helicopters by Assam Chief Ministers, emphasizing that such practices may not be exclusive to the current government. He concluded by urging Gaurav Gogoi to address this matter during his next discussion on the helicopter usage of Assam Chief Ministers.
The exchange highlights the ongoing political discourse in Assam, with both major parties engaging in a war of words over the expenditure on official travel. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how this issue will shape public opinion and influence the political landscape in the state.
