Guwahati, Feb 23rd 2025: In a significant development, the Shribhoomi District Court has sent University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) Chancellor Mahbubul Haque and five other professors to judicial custody. The court rejected their bail plea and allowed the police to interrogate Haque inside the jail.
The arrested professors include Numan Ahmed, Imdadur Rahman, Rezzak Ali, Bijoy Dutta, and Hirmani Saikia. All six were produced before the court late last night, where the police sought seven days’ custody for further investigation. However, the court decided to send them to judicial custody instead.

Authorities have assured that investigations will continue, and further developments are expected in the coming days. Meanwhile, students and faculty members of USTM are reportedly in shock over the sudden turn of events.
