Zubeen Garg’s Bandmate Alleges Poisoning: Assam SIT Arrests Manager Siddharth Sharma, Names Shyamkanu Mahanta
In a shocking twist to the death of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has alleged that the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta poisoned him in Singapore to conceal their act.
The Assam Police SIT (CID), which is probing the high-profile case, has arrested Siddharth Sharma on charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, while Mahanta has been named in the ongoing investigation.
Witness Claims: “Zubeen Could Not Have Died From Drowning Alone”
According to detailed arrest documents, Goswami, who was present with Zubeen in Singapore, revealed that Sharma stayed with the singer at the Pan Pacific Hotel and behaved suspiciously prior to his death.
He further alleged that Sharma forcibly seized control of a yacht, endangering passengers, and ordered others not to interfere with certain arrangements.
Most alarmingly, during critical moments when Zubeen reportedly struggled to breathe, Sharma allegedly shouted:
👉 “Let him go.”
Goswami insisted that Zubeen, a trained swimmer who had even coached both Sharma and Goswami, could not have drowned under normal circumstances. Instead, he claimed the duo poisoned Zubeen and deliberately chose Singapore as the venue to cover up the crime.
Evidence and Arrest
Witnesses corroborated Sharma’s suspicious conduct. He also allegedly instructed that yacht videos not be shared, raising further suspicion.
The SIT cited material evidence including witness testimony and financial records as prima facie proof against Sharma, who failed to provide any satisfactory explanation during questioning.
The arrest has been made in line with Article 22(1) of the Constitution and relevant Supreme Court rulings, the arrest memo notes.
Ongoing Investigation
Sharma remains in custody under serious non-bailable offences, while SIT officials continue to probe Mahanta’s role in the alleged conspiracy. The case is being closely monitored by top Assam Police officials, with public pressure mounting for transparency in the investigation.
The sudden and tragic demise of Zubeen Garg has shocked millions of fans worldwide, with fresh allegations fueling anger and demands for justice.
