Guwahati, Sept 23 (NETV): Assam’s music icon and beloved singer Zubeen Garg was cremated with full state honours on Tuesday at Kamarkuchi village, around 20 km from Guwahati. His last rites were performed amid an outpouring of grief as lakhs of fans, celebrities, and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects.
Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains, draped in the traditional Assamese gamosa and placed inside a cold glass coffin, were taken in a flower-decked ambulance from the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, where massive crowds had been paying tribute for the past two days.
A Farewell Filled with Love and Sorrow
The funeral procession saw thousands of fans walking alongside the cortege, chanting his name, singing his timeless songs, and raising slogans one last time before the pyre was lit. His 85-year-old father, wife Garima Saikia, and other family members accompanied the procession.
In keeping with tradition, Zubeen Garg was cremated by his sister, Palmee Borthakur, as chants of “Zubeen Dada Amar Rahibo” (Zubeen lives forever) echoed through the air.
