The Assam Budget 2024 reflects a resolute commitment to bolster local cinema, providing substantial support measures that aim to propel Assamese talent onto the global stage.
One of the key highlights of the announcement is the government’s pledge to allocate 10 lakh rupees to each full-fledged Assamese cinema, offering a much-needed financial lifeline to sustain and enhance their operations. This move is expected to not only alleviate financial pressures but also foster an environment conducive to creativity and innovation within the industry.
To ensure transparency and fairness in the distribution of funds, a panel of distinguished judges will oversee the nomination process for government support. This measure aims to uphold the integrity of the selection process, promoting equal opportunities for all deserving recipients within the Assamese film community.
In a bid to safeguard the welfare of artists and technicians, the government will facilitate their enrollment in the Atal Pension Yojana. As part of this initiative, the government will cover 50% of their contributions for a period of five years, offering a robust safety net for those contributing to the vibrant tapestry of Assamese cinema.
In a move signaling the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans to inject 50 lakhs as share capital, grants, or soft loans for each new cinema hall proposed by NGOs, cultural organizations, or the private sector.
