GOLAGHAT, 16.02.2024: In a surprising turn of events, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has taken swift action by relieving Golaghat District Congress President Dadu Taye from his duties with immediate effect. The decision was made following reports that Taye had held a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the presence of Biswajit Phukan on Wednesday.
In an official notification released on Friday, APCC President Bhupen Bora stated that Taye’s removal was prompted by his failure to take the Congress party into confidence before engaging in discussions with the Chief Minister. Bora emphasized that Taye should have informed the higher authorities about such a meeting, considering its potential implications.
Bora explained, “It is crucial for party members to align their actions with the principles of transparency and collective decision-making. Mr. Taye’s failure to inform the Congress leadership before engaging in discussions with the Chief Minister is a breach of our organizational protocol.”
In response to Taye’s actions, a show cause notice has been served, requiring him to provide a response within 72 hours, explaining why he should not face expulsion from the party.
Meanwhile, Golap Saikia has been appointed as the in-charge president of the Golaghat district Congress, assuming the responsibilities vacated by Taye. This move is aimed at maintaining stability and continuity within the party’s local leadership structure.
The controversy surrounding Taye’s meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sparked debates within the Congress party. Some members argue that such engagements should be coordinated and communicated effectively to avoid any potential misinterpretations or misrepresentations of the party’s stance.
The APCC’s decision to swiftly address the situation underscores the importance of internal cohesion and adherence to party protocols, especially when engaging with political counterparts from other parties. As the show cause notice awaits Taye’s response, the future course of action within the Golaghat district Congress remains uncertain, with party members keenly observing the developments in this unfolding political episode.
