January 26, 2024,Kolasib:In a major operation conducted on January 25 and 26, the Excise and Narcotics Department in Mizoram successfully intercepted and seized a substantial amount of heroin destined for sale outside the state. The operation led to the apprehension of individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
On the evening of January 25, the authorities confiscated 1.53 kilograms of heroin (equivalent to 96 soap cases) from the possessions of Kapthanruma (42) and Lalruatkima (51), residents of Khawmawi, Myanmar, and Bualpui, Kolasib District, respectively. The narcotics were discovered during a targeted operation, and the individuals were taken into custody. The officials also seized a Maruti Eeco Van with registration number MZ-06-A-0057, which was allegedly used for the transportation of the illegal substances.
In a subsequent operation during the early hours of January 26, an additional 261.370 grams of heroin (13 soap cases) were seized at Bairabi Road, Rengtekawn, Kolasib District. The individuals associated with this haul were also apprehended by the Excise and Narcotics Department.
All those arrested in connection with these drug seizures have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. They were promptly taken to court to face legal proceedings.
Officials from the Excise and Narcotics Department emphasized that the seized drugs were intended for distribution outside the borders of Mizoram. The successful operations mark a significant stride in the ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the region, reinforcing the commitment of law enforcement to safeguarding communities from the detrimental effects of narcotics. The authorities are determined to continue their vigilance and collaborative efforts to maintain the safety and well-being of the public.
