Guwahati: Tensions have escalated in Manipur once again following a tragic bomb attack in the Bishnupur district on April 7, 2026, which claimed the lives of four individuals, including two minors. In response to the renewed unrest and subsequent public protests, the state administration has re-imposed a three-day internet suspension across five valley districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur.

CBI Under Scrutiny: The Supreme Court of India, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, has directed the CBI to file a comprehensive status report on heinous crime cases. The court expressed concern over the “shocking casualness” in trial progress, especially regarding cases of sexual assault.
Trial Relocation: To ensure fair proceedings, 27 sensitive cases have been shifted to Assam. The Chief Justices of the Manipur and Gauhati High Courts have been tasked with day-to-day monitoring of these trials.
