GUWAHATI: In its continued drive against graft cases, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruptionon Wednesday arrested one Junu Kalita, junior assistant of office of the executive engineer, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Nalbari Division for accepting a bribe of Rs 3 thousand from an individual for processing issue of Contractor Licence to him.
The office assistant had demanded Rs 10 thousand from the contractor but later reduced the amount to Rs 5 thousand.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the contractor approached this DVAC to take legal action against the public servant.
“A trap was laid today by a team from the DVAC in the office of the executive engineer, PHED, Nalbari Division. Junu Kalita was caught red-handed at 1:10 pm immediately after she accepted Rs 3 thousand as part of the demanded bribe from the contractor,” police said.
“The bribe money was recovered from her possession and has been seized accordingly, in the presence of independent witnesses,” they said.
Junu Kalita was arrested and a case was registered in ACB Police Station vide ACB PS case No 76/2023 under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
