Bongaigaon , 27th Sept 2024: In a significant operation by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Unit, Ranjit Kumar Sarkar, the Panchayat Secretary of Uttar Shalmara village in Bongaigaon district, has been apprehended for accepting a bribe of Rs. 7,000. The arrest took place in Abhayapuri, where Sarkar, who had only been in office for five months, was caught red-handed.
The Secretary was allegedly accepting the bribe when the Vigilance team conducted the raid, leading to his immediate arrest. The operation was carried out following a tip-off, part of the state’s broader effort to combat corruption. Currently, the investigation is ongoing, and Sarkar has been taken to Guwahati for further questioning.
This operation is part of Assam’s ongoing anti-corruption drive, aimed at eliminating graft and ensuring transparency in governance.
