Nameri, Assam | January 20, 2025: A fierce encounter broke out between poachers and forest security personnel deep inside Nameri National Park, resulting in the death of a poacher. The incident took place approximately 50 kilometers from the park’s regional headquarters in a dense forested area.
According to reports, the poacher had entered the protected forest with the intent to kill wildlife and had already shot down a Sambar deer. fire without warning. In retaliation, forest security personnel returned fire, fatally shooting the poacher.
Following the encounter, the forest department recovered a handmade firearm and the carcass of the Sambar deer. The identity of the deceased poacher is yet to be established, and an investigation is currently underway. Officials have emphasized that strict action will be taken against any attempts to harm the park’s wildlife.
Nameri National Park, located in Assam, is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna, including elephants, tigers, and hornbills. Wildlife protection efforts have been intensified in recent years due to rising cases of poaching in the region.
