Rongali Bihu 2026: Dates, Rituals, and the Best Places to Celebrate Bohag Bihu in Assam

Guwahati: The scent of Kopou Phool is in the air as Assam prepares for its most vibrant festival—Bohag Bihu 2026. Starting April 14, the week-long celebration (Shat Bihu) marks the Assamese New Year and the spirit of spring.

The 7-Day Bihu Calendar:

April 14 (Goru Bihu): The traditional bathing of cattle with Mah-Halodhi.

April 15 (Manuh Bihu): The start of the New Year, marked by seeking blessings and gifting the iconic Gamosa.

April 16-20: Gosai Bihu, Kutum Bihu, Senehi Bihu, and the grand finale, Chera Bihu.

Where to catch the best Husori?

If you are in Guwahati, the Bihutoli events at Sarusajai Stadium and Judges Field are set to host record-breaking crowds. This year, expect a digital twist with several “Meta-Bihu” virtual performances for the Assamese diaspora worldwide.
