Guwahati, August 17, 2024: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old man was arrested in Guwahati for allegedly impersonating an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) from the Jalukbari area on Independence Day. The accused, whose identity has been withheld pending further investigation, reportedly donned a police uniform and attended several events, fooling both the public and officials.
The incident came to light when suspicious behavior and inconsistencies in his identification documents raised red flags among the security personnel at one of the events. Upon further investigation, it was confirmed that the man was not a member of the police force. He was immediately detained and handed over to the authorities for further questioning.
Police sources indicate that the man had meticulously planned his act, procuring a uniform that closely resembled those worn by senior officers. He reportedly attended multiple Independence Day events, enjoying VIP privileges and even addressing the public in some instances.
ACP of Guwahati, Manoj Das, expressed grave concern over the incident, stating, “This is a serious breach of security, and we are investigating how the accused managed to obtain the uniform and gain access to such high-profile events. We are also looking into any possible accomplices who may have assisted him.”
The accused has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including impersonation of a public servant, forgery, and cheating. He is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine his motives and whether he has committed similar offenses in the past.
This incident has raised significant questions about the security arrangements in place for public events, especially on important national holidays like Independence Day. Authorities have assured the public that steps will be taken to prevent such breaches in the future, and that the safety and security of citizens remain a top priority.
Local residents have expressed their shock and disbelief at the audacity of the act, with many calling for stricter checks and verification processes to prevent such incidents from recurring. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and stringent security protocols during major public event.
