GUWAHATI: Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) completed two years of its 50-year concession period of operations, management and development of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) handed over the airport to GIAL, a company of Adani Airports on October 8, 2021.
The celebration was organized at the present terminal building amongst the staff and officers of GIAL and other stakeholders of the airport. Many senior officers of GIAL and the senior commandant of CISF LM Thakur spoke on the occasion and relived the glorious journey together.
During this period GIAL has captured the expectations of the airport and developed a vision with a robust master plan for the entire 50-year period. The vision includes turning the airport into a regional hub enabling its citizens to reach any major airport of the country and come back home within 24 hours.
In the international sector, GIAL’s vision is to make the LGBIA a regional hub towards South East Asia. Guwahati is the apt doorway towards the east in case of international air connectivity for the entire eastern part of the country as it will save money and time for the travellers.
GIAL has a vision to develop a perishable cargo market in the region. Speaking on the occasion, chief airport officer Utpal Baruah, revealed its endeavours to develop a robust tourism industry collaborating with Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.
“We are very fortunate to have local citizens and governments so cordial in our endeavours that we gain confidence to bring about economic changes to the Northeast through air connectivity and thereby turning this airport as an economic driver to the entire region,” Baruah said.
