Imphal, January 8, 2024 :A delegation from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), led by in-charge Girish Ji and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Gaikhangam Ji, engaged in a constructive meeting with the Chief Secretary of the Manipur government. The central focus of the discussion was to secure official permission for utilizing a venue in Manipur to inaugurate the upcoming ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.’
The decision to launch the nationwide yatra in Manipur stems from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s profound concerns about the ongoing situation in the state. Congress spokesperson Mahima Singh, who is also overseeing communication and media coordination in Assam for the yatra, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of prioritizing headline management at the expense of addressing genuine issues faced by the people.
Singh, in a press conference on January 6, emphasized the BJP’s alleged negligence of people’s concerns, stating, “The BJP, wherever it is in power, is concerned with headline management, and people’s issues have been sidelined.” She underscored the volatile situation in Manipur, citing over 180 casualties and several hundred injuries resulting from the persistent ethnic conflict between the Kuki and Meitei communities since May of the previous year.
Singh highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s unique approach, noting that unlike other national leaders, he took the initiative to visit Manipur, spending considerable time understanding the ground realities. This, she asserted, is the rationale behind Gandhi choosing Manipur as the starting point for the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.’
Scheduled to commence on January 14, the yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, will cover an impressive distance of 6,713 km from Manipur to Maharashtra. Participants will travel by both buses and on foot, aiming to raise awareness about critical issues and foster national unity. As the Congress seeks official approval for the venue in Manipur, the yatra holds the promise of bringing attention to pressing matters while traversing the length and breadth of the country.
